Writing for impact (part 1) training

Do you want to make your writing more compelling? Are you interested in understanding  the fundamentals of good writing? Do you regularly work with data but want to practise and understand how to weave that into a narrative? This training session has all this and more.

In this half-day session we will cover the basics of good writing focusing specifically on mechanics and style. We also look at how to incorporate data into your writing – an area particularly important for think tanks. This session offers a thorough grounding in what makes good writing and forms the building block our other writing training sessions are built on. 

The trainer will use a mix of exercises, group activities and theory with a heavy focus on interactive learning. You will leave the training with a clear idea of ways to improve your writing that you can enact immediately. All attendees will be asked to submit an unedited and unpublished piece of writing (700 – 800 words). The trainer will review these ahead of the session so they can offer you valuable individual feedback and guidance in a short private meeting during the session.

You will be working with your peers from other think tanks and attendees will be encouraged to share best practice, build networks and learn from each other.
