Writing for Impact 3 – Storytelling, op-eds and blogs

Thursday June 25 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Members – £220 + VAT         Non-members – £395 +VAT

In today’s fragmented media and political ecosystem it is not enough to simply produce a policy report to promote your ideas and research. You need to be using all the different writing vehicles available to promote and expand the reach of your work including opinion pieces, blogs and other outlets. Being able to successfully adapt your writing style to these different mediums will both help increase the impact of your research as well as develop your overall writing skills.

This half-day training session not only looks in detail at how you can write good articles and blogs but it also takes attendees through how you weave storytelling into your work. Being able to weave a narrative helps make complex ideas understandable, helps your audience to remember your key points and helps you persuade non-expert audiences like journalists, civil servants and parliamentarians of your core arguments so it is a vital skill to develop as a think tanker.

This training will help you understand how storytelling works in a think tank context. It will also look in depth at what elements you need to create interesting and compelling op-eds and blogs and give you the tools to develop your style for each format.

Attendees will have the opportunity to use their current research and projects for the exercises in this session and will leave the session with core tips and techniques to help them become better writers.
